Teeth are important. An healthy set of teeth will not only helps you to have a fantastic smile, but to maintain a good overall health too. Missing a tooth or teeth can make common tasks like chewing and speaking much more difficult.
An health and nutrition survey indicates that 92% of adults between the ages of 20 and 64 suffer from tooth decay.

5 dental options of substitution

Dental implant

A dental implant is a surgical procedure in which a replacement tooth root is placed and fused to the jawbone. Although dental implants work well for a single tooth, they may not be the best option for multiple teeth. Then, dental implants offer the look and feel of natural teeth and can last for years without repair or replacement.
However, they require surgery and generally cost more than bridges or dentures, they are not for everyone.

Fixed bridge

A fixed bridge fills the space between one or more missing teeth. The process consistst to fixed bridge usually involves several visits to the dentist, as it takes time to place the implant, customize the bridge and place it in the location of the missing teeth. Nevertheless, once the bridge is in place, it looks, feels and functions like natural teeth. It does not need to be removed for cleaning, and is generally much more cost-effective than a dental implant.

Resin bridge

A resin bridge is a type of dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. We use a composite resin materials to create a strong, aesthetically pleasing structure. A resin bridge is usually used when the teeth adjacent to the missing teeth are healthy and can serve as an abutment to support the bridge. It is created in a laboratory from casts of the patient’s mouth. It is usually made up of several components, including one or more replacements for the missing tooth (“bridges”), as well as crowns that cover the adjacent teeth to strengthen and protect them.

Resin bridges are a cosmetic and durable dental restoration option in purpose to maintain the shape and function of the mouth. It will permit to improve the appearance of the teeth. They are generally less expensive than metal or ceramic bridges and it can be made and put in place quickly.
However, they are less durable than other types of bridges and can wear out or crack over time.

Removable partial prosthesis

A removable partial denture is a type of denture designed to replace one or more missing teeth using a metal or plastic structure linked to existing teeth or dental implants. Removable partial dentures are designed to be easily removed and inserted by the wearer, a proper option for people who need to temporarily or permanently replace some of their teeth. Removable partial dentures are typically customizable using impressions of the patient’s mouth and adjusted to fit comfortably and safely.

They are a convenient and affordable dental restoration option for people who need to replace one or more missing teeth. They can help maintain the shape and function of the mouth, as well as the appearance of the teeth.
However, they may require frequent adjustments, cleaning and regularly keeping them in good condition.

Removable full prosthesis

A removable full denture is a type of prosthesis designed to replace all the missing teeth in a jaw. It is a metal or plastic base which will be cover  with aesthetic materials such as composite resin or metal ceramic, and linked to acrylic or ceramic artificial teeth.

Removable full prosthesis are designed to be easily removed and inserted by the wearer. A convenient option for people who need to temporarily or permanently replace all their teeth. They are typically customizable using impressions of the patient’s mouth and are adjusted to fit comfortably and safely.
However, they may require frequent adjustments, cleaning and regularly keeping them in good condition.

Obviously, a prevention will help you to do not lost a tooth, hence the interest of a check-up with one of our hygienists.
I will point out with my experience that most of the extracted teeth are due to a deficient root treatment. It  should be noted that a non-replaced tooth causes the migration of the neighboring and antagonist teeth, which will make the treatment more complex (obligation to straighten the neighboring teeth by an orthodontic treatment).
